Storm damage

Tree on the house? Here's what to do.

  1. Stay clear. Keep people, pets and cars away from the tree. If a power line is down or touching it, call the power company first.
  2. Call Jon. (614) 582-9056. Say where the tree is and what it's on.
  3. He works calls in order of danger. Trees on homes, vehicles and roads come first, then everything else. After a big storm, timing depends on the calls ahead of yours.

If it looks dangerous, it probably is. Leave it alone and call. More on storm damage

If Jon cannot pick up, leave a voicemail. Include:

  • Your name, phone number and town
  • What the tree is doing and what you want done
  • Nearby houses, fences or lines, and how the crew can reach it

Estimates are free unless Jon tells you otherwise. He looks at the site with you before settling the scope and price.

Know what the price covers

Ask for the scope in writing so you can compare the same work between quotes.

  • Which trees, and the work on each
  • Stump grinding and the agreed depth, if included
  • What gets hauled away and what stays as logs or firewood
  • Cleanup, plus any grading or seeding

What affects the price

Tree size and number, nearby buildings and lines, truck access, climbing and rigging, stump work and haul-away.

Questions people ask

Straight answers.

Are estimates free?

Yes, unless Jon tells you otherwise up front. He looks at the job with you before settling the work and the price.

Do you haul everything away?

Yes. Brush goes through the chipper, logs get loaded and hauled. If you'd rather keep the wood for your own stove, say so when Jon looks at the job.

Can you reach a tree in the back yard?

If the bucket truck can't get there, the tree gets climbed and roped down in pieces. That's slower, so it costs more than a tree the truck can reach from the drive.

Can you work near power lines?

Jon has taken down trees grown into service lines and alongside high-voltage lines. If a line is down or touching the tree, the power company has to deal with the line first.

How soon can you come after a storm?

Trees on houses, vehicles and roads come first, in order of danger. Timing depends on the storm and the calls ahead of yours. Call Jon about the situation.

Do you sell firewood?

Yes, in season. Split and delivered by the load once the fall cutting starts. Call for availability.
